Session 8 Journal
Party Present
Previously on Rainbovia....
Our session began in The Scarlet Sanctum. After rescuing the Subtract, Magan, and intimidating Frank, a human born in the Sunstone Citadel, the party discovered the answers to some key questions about what has been going on in Rainbovia.
Who had sent them?
They'd been sent by Goldenspire and under the orders of the yellow warlock were attempting to gain access to something. They'd not been told exactly what they had been sent for but were to assist the yellow warlock no matter the cost.
Who had given Frank the yellow prism cut into his skin?
He couldn't remember - the memory was there but he knew it wasn't Goldenspire because they were sure they'd never met Goldenspire.
Where did they come from and where were they returning to?
The Saffron Sanctum on the island of Nea Ness
Only other thing of interest - the Warlock clearly thought that Magan knew where something was hidden
Given this information the party looked to Magan for some answers on what he was hiding. He refused to answer, insisting that these secrets were given to The Three Subtracts to protect and that sharing them would breach his sacred duty. While he is doing so, they noticed his eyes slip to the altar he had just been tortured on and that some of the markings covering the altar spiraled down and underneath it, where blood seemed to be leading - suggesting that it wasn't on solid stone.
Apollion quickly stung Magan with his tail, knocking him unconscious and Gest Ranecord used her spell knock on the Altar. It cracked down the middle and parted revealing a spiral staircase leading down to darkness.
Unsure what they should do with Magan, Frank volunteered to tie him up demonstrating some exceptional rope-skills.
The party headed below the altar and went quite deep before encountering a wall with the same markings on the altar. The spiral markings that flowed through the chamber created a unique pattern that led to different parts of the door. While looking at the wall the party showed a moment of patience, and witnessed one of the spiral markings fill with a deep blue light through the chamber.
They realised that this was a door that required them to demonstrate the virtues of each of the colours and upon doing so (twice because at some point they demonstrated rage and it cleared the slate!).
Once they did so, the wall again parted down the middle and opened revealing a secret chamber (secret chamber, secret chamber, secret secret secret chamber). As they entered they felt a red glow in the room. Irmia's intrinsic link to the magics of Rainbovia told her that they would not be able to take anything from this room at all.
The room appeared neat and clean and recently used - suggesting that someone had been down there recently.
On the back wall above another altar a tablet hung with the below inscription:
For Red the Rage of the Rolling hills - I leave my shard in patience grasped
For Indigo hidden in secret and moonlight - I'm not quite sure but this doesn't sound correct?
For Orange the Hour is Officially Ours - for you time will never cease to wonder
For Blue nothing more than a task - arise each day and your sharpest have access
For Violet the requisite rhythm is worthless - instead I'll just give it to you.
For Green the gift of Glades and gladness - keep yours quiet, with the beginning in silence
And you, my son, I hold my heart dearest, take my shard and keep it in nearness.
After some investigation they notice a book that appears to be the diary of Lumina Solara, the original saviour of Rainbovia. It spoke of her time during The Shadey War and ends abruptly at the end of the war after The Spill.
At this point Magan awoke and the party turned around to see the Frank was more than a 'ropes expert' and had actually been practicing his shibari skills on magan who was hogtied and on the ground.
When they let him speak he raged at them for a while but eventually calmed down enough to talk to them about the secrets they had uncovered. He confirmed their thoughts that these appeared to be the locations of the shards, but also that each of the subtracts passed specific information down from one to the next and never shared it across the hues - suggesting that Goldenspire maybe wasn't fully aware of all of the locations.
Magan had no further secrets but agreed to support the party in visiting the Emberhold and share this news with Queen Rubina so that they would be aware of Goldenspire's true intentions.
The party left The Scarlet Sanctum with Frank following along to carry stuff and tie knots.
They arrived at the Emberhold and quickly found their old friend Crimson Blaze, who welcome them warmly and showed them through, particularly the proud centre of the Emberhold - the Carmine Hospital.
